The Si Stebbins stack is a cyclic mathematical card stack. It was popularized by the magician Si Stebbins, and can be constructed from a standard 52-card deck.[1] Frequently used in card magic, its properties allow the position and value of each card in a deck to be determined.

Order of stack[edit]

Each card in a Si Stebbins stack alternates suit in the CHaSeD order (Clubs Hearts Spades Diamonds), and has a numerical value three greater than the preceding card. The Aces are given the numerical value of 1 and the Jack, Queen, and King of each suit are given the values 11, 12, and 13 respectively.[2] Lotus suspension analysis pdf.

For instance, in a deck in Si Stebbins order, A is followed by the 4, 7, 10, and K.

The deck stack is considered cyclic as any card in the deck can be used to determine the value and position of any other card in the deck.[3] The bottom card of the deck is in order with the top card of the deck making the order of cards an endlessly repeating cycle. A deck in Si Stebbins order can be cut any number of times without disturbing the order.[4]

Arranging a deck in Si Stebbins order[edit]

The arrangement can be started at any card but in the pamphlet Card Tricks And The Way They Are Performed Stebbins recommends starting with the 6 and arranging the deck in the following order reading from top left to bottom right:[4]

69Queen2
58JackAce
4710King
369Queen
258Jack
Ace4710
King369
Queen258

Using the stack to determine a selected card[edit]

The value of a card selected from a deck in Si Stebbins order can be determined by the card immediately preceding or following it.

In Card Tricks And The Way They Are Performed Stebbins instructs the performer to have a card selected and cut the cards above the selection to the bottom of the deck. Then, by looking at the bottom card, the spectators selection can be revealed.

Warframe wants you to play with all its toys, and you will have to if you want to level up your Mastery Rank. That said, you don’t need to keep these items once you have mastered them, especially if you are low on slots. Master the item, then sell it from your inventory if you don’t want to hold on to it for later. How to rank up mastery in warframe fast. Since you ask for the fastest way to get overall mastery i would use weapons that rank up fast. Like boltor, some clan research weps and so on. Do all starchart missions ( they give mastery once aswell). Craft warframes constantly and yeah everything has been said. In terms of how to level up Warframes fast, you need to understand how they acquire affinity. When it comes to affinity, the best way to level up Warframes is to either kill the equipped Warframe’s abilities, kill enemies with a weapon or be near other players when enemies are killed. How To Gain Mastery Rank Fast There are actually quite a few ways for a player to earn Mastery Points, used to get a higher Mastery Rank, and here they are: Every victory you earn in a junction gives you 1000 Mastery Points Weapons, Sentinel weapons and Archwings weapons will earn you 100 MR for each rank you get with them.

For instance, if the card on the bottom is the 9, the performer will add three to the numeric value making 12 (or Queen) and move to the next suit in the order (Clubs). The selected card is the Q.[4]

History[edit]

Mathematical card stacks in which each card's value progresses by 3, 4, or 5 are detailed in magic literature as early as the 16th Century.[5]

The system was originally published in the United States in Boston or New York City around 1898 by Si Stebbins (real name William Coffrin), in a pamphlet titled Si Stebbins' Card Tricks And The Way He Performs Them and a later edition Card Tricks And The Way They Are Performed.[6]

Despite contrary claims, Stebbins maintained that the stack was his invention:

..I am the ORIGINATOR of this system for doing these tricks, and the first Vaudeville Artist to present them in the better class theaters of the United States.

In fact, the first time they were ever presented to an American vaudeville audience was by myself, at the Columbia Theater, St. Louis, Mo., during the season of 1898-9, and on the Keith and Orpheum Circuits the season of 1900. Pokemon alpha sapphire citra download.

Howard Thurston claimed to have invented the system in his 1903 book Howard Thurston's Card Tricks referring to it as 'The 'Thurston' System of Expert Card Manipulation' and thanking Stebbins '..for many valuable suggestions and ideas with regard to its conception.'[7]

The card stack is generally known as Si Stebbins today, and is referred to as such in many card magic books including The Encyclopedia of Card Tricks and Expert Card Technique.[8]

In the first decades of the twentieth century magicians filled the magic journals with articles on card tricks, giving improvements on classic tricks and inventing new ones. If you could put together a collection of these magazines you would have almost a complete course on card tricks, by some of the world's greatest magicians. But where could you find these journals now that they are probably collector's items? And even if you could find them, how much would such a collection cost? Not very much. Because all the best of these tricks are available in this one monumental book, containing nearly every practical card trick produced, invented, and improved by magicians over a span of forty years and more.
A truly staggering collection, this book explains how to perform over 600 professional card tricks: impromptu card tricks, spelling tricks, 'you do as I do' tricks, diachylon (a paste for gluing cards together) tricks, calculation tricks; tricks using key cards, slick cards, double-backed cards, reversed cards, short cards; tricks based on a one-way pack, prearranged pack, Svengali pack, Mene-Tekel pack, stripper pack; special packs; miscellaneous tricks including Everywhere and Nowhere, The Case of the Four Kings, Card in the Orange, The Buddha Whispers, and Inseparable Aces; and a final chapter on tricks using the famous Nikola Card System. In addition, a chapter on technique explains the most important sleights ― the overhand shuffle, riffle shuffle, false cut, palm, simple pass, double lift, glide, and force.
Based on a volume compiled by Dr. Wilhelm Von Deusen and Glenn G. Gravatt, this collection was thoroughly revised by Jean Hugard and completely rewritten. It is easily the finest single compendium of classic card tricks, and the clear style makes the instructions easy to follow. An indispensable book for the professional or amateur magician, it is a magnificent source for anyone who wants just the right tricks to mystify his friends or delight his children.
